In midfield, the likes of Saul Niguez and Koke have become star turns, with Portuguese veteran Tiago also returning from injury, but their spots in the side could be under threat from playmaker Nico Gaitan, who arrived from Benfica earlier this summer.
Although goals weren't a problem at the Estadio Vicente Calderon last season thanks to Antoine Griezmann, Kevin Gameiro's signing from Sevilla in a deal which saw Luciano Vietto go the other way on loan, offers yet another option for Simeone.
Expectations are once again high for Atleti this term and the three new players in particular could ensure more success is to come in Madrid.
