eal Madrid registered another win of the 2016 International Champions Cup with a 1-0 triumph over Bayern Munich on Wednesday night at Met Life Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Danilo tallied the game's lone goal in the 79th minute with an absolute bullet that earned Real their second victory of the preseason in three matches.
It was tepid start from both teams, with Real failing to get out of their own half while Bayern lacked any cutting edge. It took David Alaba's 26th minute free kick to give the match a bit of life, as the Austria international rang a left-footed effort off the post. United States international Julian Green followed up two minutes later with shot that looked goalbound, but Real goalkeeper Kiko Casilla stood tall and made the save.
Casilla was then called back into action again with a diving stop to his left to deny Thiago, who did extremely well to create enough room in the Real defence to rifle in a shot. James tried to spark Real to life toward the end of the first half with a shot from distance, but the Colombian blazed the ball well over the bar.
Real returnee Álvaro Morata was hardly involved until just shy of the hour mark when he first had a shout for a penalty and then a minute later collected a pass from Marcelo and curled a shot just wide of the far post. It helped spring the Real attack to life and Isco was inches away from opening the scoring with an exquisite shot from the right, but he was denied by the far post.
By the final 15 minutes things looked destined to end in a 0-0 draw, as manager Zinedine Zidane made a number of changes in order to give young players some minutes, including Mariano who starred in Saturday's win over Chelsea. However it was a defender who finally broke the deadlock as right-back Danilo rocketed in a left-footer that in the 79th minute to hand Real the 1-0 lead.
Bayern looked to respond and hunted for an equalizer in the game's dying moments, but it was Real who had the chances, with Mariano almost finding the back of the net twice in stoppage time. Next up for Real is the 2016 UEFA Super Cup against Europa League winners Sevilla in Trondheim, Norway.
