It has been revealed that Barcelona have spent 40% more on transfers over
the past three seasons than Real Madrid.
While the capital city side have spent 239 million euros on
signings in that period, their Catalan counterparts have forked out 331m euros.
Since 2009, however, when Prime Time Sports' 'Soccerex Transfer
Review' began, Los Blancos have been the biggest spenders, having outspent
their rivals by 847m euros to 674m euros, although the recent trend suggests
that the Blaugrana are catching up.
It should also be kept in mind that the only individual season
in the past three years in which the current LaLiga champions did not outspend
their rival was last season, when they had their FIFA ban on registering new
players.
This summer has been an example of Barcelona's recent superior
spending, given that they paid out 123m euros on six players, while Florentino
Perez only wrote one 30m euro cheque - for Alvaro Morata.
The study, which was presented at the LaLiga headquarters on
Tuesday, also looked at the sales each club has made, explaining that Real
Madrid made 34.5m euros on sales of youth graduates this past summer, while the
Catalan club made 13m euros from such sales.
