Just in
case Manchester United fans forgot, they’ve been given a timely reminder that
there will be no Champions League football at Old Trafford this season.
The
official Champions League Twitter account have used United’s ground – or,
at least, a stadium that’s a spitting image of Old Trafford – in their
latest post to remind supporters that the group stage gets under way next week
after the international break.
Of
course, no Champions League football will be played at Old Trafford this season
after Louis van Gaal guided the club to a fifth-placed finish last term.
Jose
Mourinho will be looking to get United back in the competition at the first
attempt after replacing Van Gaal earlier this summer.
Under the
Portuguese’s guidance, United have made an encouraging start to the new Premier
League campaign with three straight victories over Bournemouth, Southampton and
Hull City.
With the
victory over Leicester City in the Community Shield, Mourinho is also the first
manager in United’s history to win his first four competitive games.
And best
of all… he has the chance to win some European silverware with the Europa
League this season.
