The transfer window is firmly shut for the
calendar year, and Barcelona are turning their attention to extending the
contracts of the club's existing stars.
While the Blaugrana had already completed
their incoming business with the purchase of Paco Alcacer, sporting director Albert
Soler is now keen to renew the vows of Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi, and Ivan
Rakitic.
"The next duties we have are to renew
Rakitic, Messi, and Suarez's contracts," Soler told reporters, "those
are the goals.
"With 120 million euros spent, we have
bought six players and with that money Manchester United only purchased one.
"We wanted to give the squad depth and a
youthful quality."
Fitting Alcacer into a side of such attacking
ferocity will be a big task for coach Luis Enrique, but technical secretary
Robert Fernandez believes the forward will be satisfied with his role.
"Alcacer is mentally prepared to be a
substitute," Fernandez stated.
"He comes to a very big club and has a
lot to learn, [Luis] Suarez is the best No. 9 in the world and is on another
level."
