Las
Palmas have made a dream start to their 2016/17 La Liga campaign with a 4-2
away win over Valencia last week. They were trailing 1-0 after 6 minutes but
went on to the break on a 3-2 lead with goals from Jonathan Viera and new
signings Marko Livaja and Kevin-Prince Boateng. In a quite second half, Livaja
scored once again in the 88th minute to make it a memorable debut. The Gran
Canaries were surprise package in last season after finishing 11th in the
league standings. In the second season after gaining promotion they will be
eyeing to sneak into the Europa League qualification spot.
Granada
were 16th in the La Liga standings last season and were saved from relegation
by virtue of a single point. This was mainly achieved by some strong results at
home in the final weeks of the season. And they started from where they left
off as they held Villarreal to a 1-1 draw at home on the opening day of the new
season. It is a morale boosting result to kick-start their competitive
campaign. But with most of their key players having left in the summer transfer
window, they are expected to struggle this season.
