New Spain coach Julen Lopetegui may be without Gerard Pique for La
Roja's upcoming fixtures against Belgium and Liechtenstein after the defender
suffered a knock in Barcelona's win over Athletic Club on Sunday evening.
He suffered muscle pain
during the match and left with a dressing on his calf muscle, so will be
assessed by the national team's medical staff when he links up with the squad
at the Las Rozas training complex later on Monday.
They will determine
whether or not the centre-back can feature in the friendly against Belgium in
Brussels on September 1 and the World Cup qualifier against Liechtenstein Leon
on September 5.
If the 29-year-old is
forced to sit these matches out then his place alongside Sergio Ramos in the
starting lineup could be taken by Marc Bartra or Javi Martinez, the other two
centre-backs included in Lopetegui's first squad.
