A testing
start to the tournament saw the Verde-Amarelha booed off the pitch, but all was
forgotten after Saturday's triumph at the Maracana Stadium
Neymar
believes he and his Brazil team-mates responded to criticism "with
football" after winning the Olympic gold medal against Germany.
Brazil
had come under fire during the opening stages of the tournament, drawing 0-0
twice to South Africa and Iraq before beating Denmark 4-0 to reach the
quarter-finals.
"What
are we going to do? Now [the critiques] are going to have to swallow their
words," Neymar said after the 5-4 penalty shootout victory over Germany.
Neymar
also stated that the Olympic triumph was one of the "happiest moments of
my life" and profusely thanks his family, friends and team-mates.
During
normal time, the 24-year-old's free-kick after 27 minutes had given Brazil the
lead but was cancelled out by Max Meyer's goal soon after half-time.
And as
Weverton saved Nils Petersen's spot kick, Neymar stroked home the fifth and
deciding penalty in the shootout to win Brazil first ever gold medal in the
Olympic football competition.
