with Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema still sidelined, Real Madrid look set
to begin their LaLiga campaign in the Estadio Anoeta against Real Sociedad with
the inexperienced attacking pair of Gareth Bale and Alvaro Morata.
A duo as
talented as Bale and Morata can hardly be described as weak, but it is true
that the pair have never started a competitive match together.
Bale arrived
to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu at the start of the 2013/14 season and
although Morata had been promoted to the first team squad, the most they played
together was a Champions League fixture against Schalke when Bale replaced
Jese, after the youngster suffered a knee injury in the 8th minute.
Morata then
spent the following two seasons at Juventus before returning to Madrid this
summer.
Even in
pre-season the pair have not had the opportunity to play together, as Bale was
granted a longer vacation after the European Championships and Zinedine Zidane
did not want to rush the Welsh forward back into action in the UEFA Super Cup.
Although
Bale will remain as one of the Zidane's key players regardless, it is a huge
opportunity for Morata to impress and to show he is more than just a valuable
alternative.
