- Bartomeu: Barcelona have the best squad in the world
as Barcelona prepare to defend their LaLiga crown this season, president Josep Maria Bartomeu has attempted to allay fears over the lack of a striker's arrival this summer by claiming they have the best squad in the world.
On the whole, the transfer window has been a positive one for the Blaugrana, with Denis Suarez, Andre Gomes, Samuel Umtiti and Lucas Digne all arriving this summer.
Nevertheless, the need for attacking options as backup to Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar is well documented and they have failed to clinch any of their targets so far, but Bartomeu has confidence in the existing players.
"We have the best squad in the world and are very proud of everything we've achieved," he told reporters ahead of the Joan Gamper friendly with Sampdoria.
"[Messi, Neymar and Suarez] broke records and we had a lot of fun watching the team put on a show while winning four titles."
Resting on laurels is not an option at the Camp Nou, and the club already have plans in place for a bright future, according to Bartomeu.
"Our strategic plan is already underway," he said. "The aim is to be a club for the digital age, but with sentimental value that is loved by all.
"[On the pitch] we have signed young players with a variety of different skillsets, we are creating a team for the future."
Next up for Barcelona is the two-legged Supercopa de Espana clash with Sevilla before meeting Real Betis in the season opener on August 20.
