Barcelona and Real Madrid to battle for LaLiga from the outset
LaLiga
has only just begun and two of the favourites, Real Madrid and current
champions Barcelona, are already marking their territory to other teams by
signalling that they want to dominate the competition, each cruising to
overwhelming wins on the opening weekend.
Barcelona's 6-2 victory over Betis gives them a slightly better goal
differencial, meaning Madrid will be in second after the Week 1 fixtures, barring
any more abundant multi-goal wins on Monday.
Real
got off to a poor start last year, held to a 0-0 draw at El Molinon with Rafa
Benitez still in charge, whereas Barcelona had to work harder for a win last
campaign against Athletic Club to achieve the three points from their first
fixture.
Most
notably, the improvement and better preparation this time around came without
some of each club's biggest stars as Iniesta, Mascherano and Neymar were
missing for the Blaugrana, while Los Blancos were without Cristiano Ronaldo,
Benzema, Luka Modric, Keylor Navas and Pepe.
